Description
This is a farm building and attached walls located beside Menmarsh Road, approximately 40 metres south to 65 metres east of Manor Farmhouse. The structure dates from the 17th to 18th century and is constructed of limestone rubble with a thatched roof. It features a six-bay plan, with the shelter having three rubble walls and a hipped roof.
Inside, there are five heavy cross beams supported by two posts each, resting on tapering stone bases and set into the rear wall. Rough poles span between the beams and are covered with sticks and gorse, which form the base for the thatch. The high rubble walls on either side are significant to the visual character of the village. The roof construction, likely originally thatched with gorse, represents a rare example of a primitive building method.
The building is included for its group value.
