Description
These five cottages, now combined into two dwellings, were built in the early 19th century, with the three bays on the right side being of earlier 18th-century origin. The left side is constructed of grey brick in a header bond pattern, with red brick detailing on a flint base. The right side utilizes flint rubble with red brick quoins and dressings. The roof is gabled and covered with old tiles, featuring brick ridge stacks. The cottages are one storey high with an attic, encompassing an eight-window range. Twentieth-century porches have been added to the left and right ends. Segmental arches mark the locations of original blocked doorways, and most windows are twentieth-century casements, except for the two-light 19th-century casements on the right side. Gabled dormers with twentieth-century casements are also present. The interior of the early 19th-century cottages includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, original joists, a central open fireplace with a bread oven, a timber-framed partition, and a truss on the right side. The cottage on the far right was not inspected. Historically, until the early 20th century, these cottages were occupied by chair-bodgers.
