Description
This dovecote, located approximately 100 meters northwest of Ascott Park Farmhouse, dates back to the 16th century. It is constructed of red brick with some vitrified headers and features an old plain-tile roof. The building has an octagonal plan and is a single storey. The walls are adorned with a corbel table made of moulded bricks that create trefoiled arches, while grey vitrified headers form decorative patterns of horizontal zig-zag, diaper, and Flemish-bond chequer on the surfaces below. The doorway and a three-light casement window are later additions. The roof includes four small dormer openings and a low central glover. Inside, the dovecote has a circular plan with walls that contain tiers of nesting boxes. The roof features butt purlins and is likely largely original. This structure was part of the formal gardens of Ascott Park, which is listed in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission County Register of Gardens at Grade II.
