Description
Beehive Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of limestone rubble and brick, with some timber framing, and features a thatched roof with brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and was originally designed with a lobby entrance. It stands one storey high plus attics and has a three-window front. The first floor has renewed brickwork, with a door located to the right of the center, two casement windows to the left, one to the right, and three half dormers. All windows are from the 20th century. There are stacks positioned to the left of center and on the left gable. The roof is hipped to the right, covering an ancient weatherboarded outbuilding that hides the timber-framed gable wall. Inside, there are two open fireplaces, one featuring an inglenook, remnants of first-floor timber framing, a timber-framed cross partition with a blocked Tudor-arched doorway, and a clasped-purlin roof.
