Description

The Plough is a public house dating from the late 17th century and the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with some brick dressings, and has plain-tile roofs with brick gable stacks. The building follows a 3-unit through-passage plan. It is two storeys high and has two bays to the right of the entrance, which have renewed 3-light casements with 2-light windows above. The bay to the left of the entrance has brick quoins and segmental arches over the windows and doorway. The roof has a lower pitch in this section.

Inside the earlier portion of the building, there are chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, spanning into a central cross-beam morticed for a partition. There are open fireplaces, one with moulded chamfer-stops to the timber brassumer, an inglenook and flanking winder stair.
