Description
Abbots Close is a house dating from the early 17th century, constructed of coursed limestone rubble with an old plain-tile roof featuring brick ridge-stacks. The building has a T-plan layout that is positioned at right angles to the road and consists of two storeys plus attics. The front has two windows, which are three-light ovolo-moulded stone-mullioned windows, except for a two-light window located to the left of the central door. All windows are fitted with leaded lights. The central door is from the 20th century and is set within a moulded four-centre stone surround that includes recessed spandrels. There are four-light stone-mullioned windows in the right gable wall and to the right of the rear wing. A dovecote is situated in the left gable. At the junction of the roofs, there is a central stack with four diagonal shafts aligned in a row. Inside, the house features four Tudor-arched stone fireplaces, each within rectangular moulded surrounds. It is also reported to have gable-trusses.
