Description
Hill View House is a house that dates from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and early 19th century. It features rendered timber-framing and limestone rubble with some brick dressings, topped by an old plain-tile roof and brick ridge stacks. Originally a 5-bay hall house, it has been modified to a 4-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys tall. The front, which is irregular and dates from the early 19th century, has five windows with 2 and 3-light casements, some of which are set under brick segmental arches, and there are garage doors in the far right bay. A 20th-century porch aligns with the central stack, and there is a second stack above an additional chimney bay on the far left. The right gable wall has brick quoins. The rear wall features two bays of timber-framing at the first floor, with large panels and curved braces, now rendered over. Inside, there is a massive 17th-century inserted stack with a flanking stair. The bay to the right has heavy joists that may date from the 16th century. The roof has six bays with arched braces to the tie beams, curved wind-braces, and a double chamfered arched collar truss over the former two-bay hall.
