Description

Wall Street Cottage is a house, likely dating back to the 18th or 19th century, though with a possible 17th-century core. It was originally two cottages. The walls are constructed of rendered limestone rubble, topped with an old plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack. The building follows a single-unit plan with an outshut addition. It is two storeys high. The front has two 16-pane sashes under segmental arches, with smaller 12-pane sashes above. A 20th-century door is located on the extreme right; the corresponding entrance on the left has been built up. Around 1800, the front wall was raised and the roof pitch altered. A steeper catslide roof covers the outshut at the rear. The cottage is situated on a curved frontage, connected to the adjacent 17th-century post office. It is included on the heritage register for its contribution to the group value of the area.
