Description
John Hampden School is a school building dated 1837, as indicated by the slate tablets on the central block that read "Royal British Schools MDCCCXXXVII." The structure is made of squared coursed stone and features a hipped slate roof on the central section, with hipped slate roofs on the wings at either end. There are rendered end stacks on the central block and a wooden bell turret located at the ridge of the central block.
The building is two stories tall with a three-window central block and single-story wings on both sides, each also featuring three windows. The central block has a six-panel part-glazed door at its center, which is framed by a stone flat arch with a keystone above it. The windows in the central block are four-pane horned sashes, each with flat stone arches and keystones. The wings contain 16-pane horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
