Description

The Cottage, now a house, dates from the late 18th century and has 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick with flared headers in Flemish bond and features a slate hipped roof with a 19th-century brick lateral stack at the rear. The building is two stories high and has a five-window range facing the forecourt of Bridge House. The central entrance has a 20th-century door with a fanlight and a painted reeded wood surround. To the left are 12-pane sash windows with segmental brick heads, while the ground floor right has fenestration enclosed by a 20th-century addition. A flat brick band runs between the ground and first floors, and there are five 6-pane unhorned sashes with segmental brick heads on the first floor. The eaves are finished with a plain parapet. The rear of the building has 19th-century windows facing the road. The interior has not been inspected.

Attached to the cottage are walls that enclose the churchyard, made of red brick with flared headers in Flemish bond, standing approximately 3 meters high and forming a rectangle about 50 meters by 30 meters. The inner face of the wall features areas of stone and flint, likely reusing earlier stonework. There is a wrought iron gate and overthrow leading to Thames Street.

Additionally, there is a wall to High Street situated between No.1 High Street (not included) and Wallingford Bridge. This wall is also made of red brick with flared headers in Flemish bond, approximately 2.5 meters high and 30 meters long. The cottage and walls are included for their group value.
