Description

Doyley's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with remodels from the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and features timber framing with plaster and brick infill. The roof is made of old plain tiles and has brick gable stacks. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys plus attics.

The symmetrical front has three windows made of rubble, with a chamfered plinth. At the center, there is a gabled ashlar porch that shelters a 17th-century doorway. This doorway has a four-centred arched ovolo-moulded surround, recessed spandrels, and a 19th-century ribbed door. The outer bays feature 19th-century three-light stone-mullioned windows, and above the porch is a matching two-light window. The roof includes three gabled 19th-century dormers.

The end walls are made of rubble and show remnants of timber framing at the first floor, with large brick chimney projections that taper into two diagonal shafts. A rear wing extends to the left and has first-floor timber framing with heavy diagonal braces in the lower panels, and this wing is contemporary with the front range. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The front probably also had first-floor framing. The farmhouse was occupied by Timothy D'Oyley before 1657.
