Description
Magdalen Gate House, located at 61 High Street, is a late 18th-century house facing east. The east elevation features three storeys of ashlar stone with a pediment, stone bands at the first and second floors, and rusticated quoins. It has a moulded eaves cornice and stone-faced stacks. The façade includes five casement windows in tall upright frames, which have blind boxes and glazing bars. A circular lunette is present in the tympanum of the pediment. To the south, there is a three-storeyed ashlar extension that is of lower height. The north elevation has three blind windows on each floor and stone bands. Inside, the house retains original doorcases, chimney-pieces, and a staircase. This section is now known as No 1, Rose Lane. All the listed buildings on the south side form a group.
