Description
No. 2 Queens Lane is a Grade II listed building located at the corner of High Street and Queens Lane. This building, along with Nos. 39 to 41 High Street, dates from the 17th to 18th century and features three stories of stuccoed timber framing with cellars. It was refaced in the early 18th century and has a modillioned wooden eaves cornice and a Welsh slate roof. The first floor is adorned with seven 18th-century style sash windows in moulded wood frames and cornices, while the second floor has similar windows in plain moulded frames. Between Nos. 40 and 41, there is a fluted rainwater head and pipe. The west elevation extending north along Queens Lane is styled similarly but features three-light sash and coupled sash windows, believed to have been built in the early 17th century. Inside No. 41, there is some reset early 16th-century linen-fold panelling. The building was completely rebuilt behind the facade around 1968 and now includes modern 18th-century style shop windows with bowed fronts. All the listed buildings on the north side of the street form a group.
