Description

6 and 7 Turl Street are two houses that have been combined into one building, dating from the 19th century with some minor alterations made in the 20th century.

The exterior facing Turl Street features a three-storey front made of stuccoed brick, with a decorative band at the second floor, a cornice with modillions, and a small moulded parapet. On the first floor, there are two tall three-light casement windows set in stuccoed and pilastered frames, each with moulded segmental architraves. The second floor has six narrow sash windows with semi-circular heads. The north side and the rear of the building are constructed from 19th-century brick.

Inside, No. 6 has been a shoemaker's shop since 1867 and includes wooden glazed cabinets in the front area. At the rear, there is a single-storey workshop from the early 20th century that incorporates an earlier garden wall and features a late 20th-century roof. The shop has a wooden fireplace adorned with oxblood tiles, while the cellar contains a stone fireplace with a keystone.

Nos. 6 to 14 Turl Street form a cohesive group.
