Description
58 and 60 Colston Street is a pair of attached houses, now serving as a shop and office, dating from the early 18th century. The buildings feature a rendered and stuccoed timber frame, with a central brick stack, two right-hand lateral stacks, and a central rear stack, topped by a pantile hipped roof. They are three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and have a two-to-one window arrangement. The 19th-century shop fronts include a moulded eaves cornice. The outer doorways show that No. 58 has a three-pane plate-glass window with a fascia and 6/6-pane sash windows in flush frames, while No. 60 features an 18-pane window with a fascia and 8/8-pane sash windows in flush frames. The steep roof has a rear extension. Inside, there are lateral ceiling beams and a central winder staircase against the flanking walls. No. 60 is noted as a good example of an early 19th-century shop front.
