Description
Nos. 15 and 16 Market Square is a building that originally served as shops and a dwelling, now functioning as shops and offices. It dates from the early 17th century, with possible earlier elements, and was altered in the early 19th century. The structure features rendered and limestone-rubble walls, topped with an old plain-tile roof and brick stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys plus an attic.
The front of the building has three windows and a first-floor storey band, with a plain parapet that rises from a deep band, likely originally moulded. The central entrance doors are flanked by stucco pilasters and share an entablature. The outer bays include two-storey bay windows: a rectangular bay to the left and a canted bay to the right, which is probably earlier. The middle window on the first floor is a tripartite sash, positioned to the right of centre. The steep-pitched roof features three hipped roof dormers. There is also a further bay from which a rubble rear wing extends, located behind Nos. 13 and 14, and a three-storey link connects the properties at the angle. The interior has not been inspected.
