Description
No. 12 Market Square is a shop and dwelling that dates from the early 18th century and the mid-19th century. The building features part-rendered brick and coursed squared limestone rubble, with wooden lintels. It has a combination of Welsh-slate and plain-tile roofs, along with brick stacks. The structure has a narrow double-depth plan with a long rear wing and consists of three storeys at the front and two storeys at the rear, plus attics.
The front facade, which is rendered and three storeys high, includes a moulded band at the second floor. A large canted bay window is present at the first floor, while the second floor has two 4-pane sash windows. Both of these windows are adorned with ornamental cast-iron guard rails, scalloped blind boxes, and vermiculated stucco keyblocks. The shop front has been altered in the 20th century. The four-window rear wing retains two early 18th-century leaded cross windows and features a steep-pitched roof. The interior has not been inspected.
