Description
The Oxford Canal Tilting Bridge, located approximately 750 meters south of Pigeons Lock, is a late 18th-century structure designed by James Brindley and restored in 1983. It features a wooden bridge supported by brick walls that include some stone details. The bridge is flat and incorporates long raking counterweight beams, which were added during the 1983 restoration. The splayed embankment walls are made of purple brick and have stone and bullnosed red-brick copings that slope away from the bridge. Additionally, large rusticated stone blocks are set into the brickwork beneath the bridge to serve as fenders.
