Description
Blackbirds is a house dating from the 17th century, located on Chapel Street in Hook Norton. It is constructed from roughly-shaped ironstone rubble with ironstone quoins, and has a roof of Welsh slate. The building originally comprised three rooms, with later additions. Architectural features include brick chimney stacks on stone bases at each end and along the ridge. The windows are mostly 2- and 3-light casements retaining their original stone lintels. A two-storey projection houses the staircase, featuring a tall window and a wooden lintel. The front entrance is set to the left of the staircase and has a substantial wooden frame and lintel. A 20th-century porch with a sloping roof of Welsh slates has been added. A single-storey extension, also from the 20th century, is visible on the right-hand side. Stone window surrounds indicate a cellar to the left of the porch. The right-hand gable end has a prominent 4-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and decorative label stops on the ground floor, and a similar 3-light window above.
