Description
The Old Post Office is a house dating from the 17th century, located on Chapel Street in Hook Norton. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble with a 20th-century tile roof. A brick stack is positioned on the left gable end, and the roof has a steep pitch. The front elevation features two ground-floor windows on either side of the entrance. The left window has renewed stone surrounds containing a 3-light casement with a hood mould featuring label stops. A 20th-century window, formerly an entrance for the post office, is located to the right. The first-floor level has a 3-light stone mullioned window with a hood mould and label stops on the left, alongside a 3-light casement set within stone surrounds on the right. The rear displays 2- and 3-light stone mullioned windows, each with a hood mould and label stops. The interior includes an inglenook fireplace within the parlour and a 20th-century staircase. A datestone bearing the inscription "P/1676/TM" is present, attributed to Thomas Parran, who, according to records from 1687, held the office of 'over cerare pore'.
