Description

The Old Post Office is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched thatched roof, along with four brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and is a single storey plus attic, with an attic range that includes four windows.

There are two entrances; the one on the left is blocked and has a wood lintel, while the approximately central entrance features a six-panelled door with a wood frame and wood lintel, along with a 20th-century porch. The ground floor has a single-light 20th-century window with a wood lintel and two three-light wood casements in wood frames, also with wood lintels. The attic contains three two-light similar windows and a 20th-century single-light window.

Notably, there is a tie-bar on the left side and a fire plaque on the right. Flora Thompson, the author of "Lark Rise to Candleford," once worked here when it served as the village post office.
