Description
Monks House is a farmhouse with a datestone indicating it was built in 1683, with extensions added in the 18th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The building features coursed limestone rubble and steeply pitched slate roofs. The 17th-century section has a paired brick end stack, while the 18th-century part includes brick ridge and lateral stacks. The layout consists of a two-unit plan with a later extension, forming a T-plan, and it has two storeys throughout. The 18th-century section has a three-window range, with an approximately central entrance featuring a four-panelled door and wood lintel. There are two- and three-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, with earlier casement windows on the left side. The front elevation has two renewed windows on the ground and first floors. The interior is said to include chamfered beams and inglenooks. From 1713 to 1743, the house was inhabited by Lawrence Broderick, who was the rector. The interior has not been inspected.
