Description
The Church of St Lawrence is a Grade II listed building dating from the 13th century, with restoration work carried out by G.E. Street in 1859. It is constructed of ironstone and features a Welsh slate roof. The church comprises a nave, chancel, west tower, north aisle, and north porch. The west tower has three stages, a crenellated parapet, finials, and diagonal buttresses. It includes single lancet windows on the second stage and paired lancets in the bell tower. There are remnants of 13th-century stonework visible in the hood moulds and moulded jambs of the west door, as well as in the north aisle window, which features Y-tracery. The 1859 restoration involved rebuilding the chancel, nave, south door, north aisle, and north porch, with all windows featuring geometrical tracery from this period.
Inside, there is a 15th-century screen with tracery in both the upper and lower panels, which has been repainted in the 19th century. Tracery from former Perpendicular bench ends has been affixed to a panel at the east end of the north aisle. The church also contains a 15th-century font with a small bowl set on an octagonal pedestal.
