Description

A row of eight cottages is situated on the north side of High Street, Upper Heyford. The cottages likely date from the early 18th century and were altered in the 20th century. They are constructed of limestone rubble and have thatch roofs. Originally single-unit dwellings, they have been extended to the rear. Nos.16 to 19 each have one window per floor plus an entrance door. No.15 has two first-floor windows, and No.20 has two windows on each floor, along with a central doorway. All windows have been replaced with casements, and the first-floor windows have been raised to form half-dormers. No.21 has two renewed casements on both the ground and first floors, a central doorway, and an old leaded three-light dormer. No.22 features a three-window front with tall casements in the first and second bays, while the third bay projects as a two-storey porch with a small first-floor window. The continuous roof has rebuilt ridge stacks, except for the gable stack to No.22, which is constructed of rubble and capped with blue brick. The interiors were not inspected. This is an unusually long row of early cottages.
