Description

Bluecoats Tysul House is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It likely dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of part-rendered limestone rubble with some wooden lintels, and it features roofs made of Welsh slate and concrete plain tiles, along with a rendered chimney stack. The layout consists of a three-unit lobby-entry plan with a rear wing.

The structure stands two storeys plus an attic, with the main range displaying a rendered front that has three windows arranged in a regular pattern, featuring architraved 12-pane sash windows. Between the bays, there are four- and six-panel doors. The slated roof includes one central dormer. The left gable wall of the building, which belongs to No.1, has a chimney projection with weathered offsets and small stair and attic windows. This wall connects to a lower rear wing that has casement windows and a single-row dovecote. The rear of the main range features a gabled stair projection.

Inside, No.1 contains a quarter-turn attic stair and a section of reused mid-17th century panelling on the first floor. No.3 features a broad dogleg stair from around 1700, which leads to the attics and includes a moulded closed string and handrail, ball finials, and heavy turned balusters. Additionally, No.3 has an early 18th century bolection-moulded door.
