Description

The Churchill memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 3 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of marlstone. The tomb is rectangular in shape, featuring a molded base and cover, with fielded panelled sides and recessed fluted baluster corners. The inscriptions on the tomb commemorate Bartholomew Churchill, who died in either 1735 or 1755, along with other members of the Churchill family. This memorial is an unusually elaborate example of a common type of tomb.
