Description
The walled gardens located approximately 10 metres southeast of Heyford House date from the 18th or early 19th century. They are constructed from limestone and marlstone rubble, along with red and yellow brick. The walls stand about 2.5 metres high and enclose a long rectangular garden measuring approximately 12 metres by 50 metres, as well as a three-sided garden to the south, which is about 15 metres by 30 metres. Most of the walls are made of rubble lined with red brick and feature flat stone copings. Notably, the eastern wall has a coping made of Stonesfield slate, and the section facing the enclosed garden is lined with yellow brick. This section includes alternate courses with a continuous moulded projection that has vertical holes (five per brick) for wiring fruit tree branches.
