Description

Glebe Cottage is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is located on the west side of Market Square, Lower Heyford. The construction uses coursed limestone and marlstone rubble, with some squared marlstone dressings. The roof is thatched, featuring brick gable stacks. It originally comprised two units, with later additions to the rear. The house has two storeys plus an attic. The front facade is symmetrical, with three windows. A central doorway has a heavy frame incorporating an overlight. The windows are cross-windows, with many retaining old leaded glazing. The lower window openings have stone flat arches with tall keyblocks. A 2-light ovolo-moulded wood-mullioned window is found in the right-hand gable. The rear elevation includes a small inset roof dormer, and a narrow central transomed window flanked by extensions. The interior remains uninspected.
