Description
This building, located at 8 Causeway, is a restaurant and dwelling dating from the 17th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble with some brick dressings, and features timber framing that is partly rendered with brick infill. The roof is covered with plain tiles and has brick gable stacks. The building has a T-plan layout with a linked rear block and consists of two storeys plus attics.
The front facade, which is rendered, has three windows and a jettied first floor supported by irregularly-spaced shaped brackets. The first floor features 4-pane architraved sashes, while the ground floor has a blocked central doorway that has been converted into a window, flanked by inserted shop windows, and a further doorway to the extreme left. A large stack on the right side of the steep-pitched roof is from the 18th century. The left gable wall is made of rubble, while the right gable wall is rendered and connects to a short rear wing constructed of light timber framing with brick infill. The larger central wing links to a lower rear block, both of which are timber framed. Inside, there is a winder stair. The building is noted as being dated 1676.
