Description

Virginia Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, situated in Wroxham, Church Street. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone rubble with a steeply pitched thatched roof and a brick end stack on a stone base. The cottage is a single storey with an attic, and has a three-window attic range, presenting its gable to the road. The front elevation features a three-light stone mullioned cellar window and a renewed three-light casement window on both the ground and attic floors, with painted, original wood lintels. A small, blocked stone mullioned wooden window is located near the apex of the gable. An entrance on the right side has a 20th-century door and wood lintel. The ground floor has two renewed casement windows, while the first floor has three, both with wood lintels. Inside, there are chamfered beam ceilings and an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer. There is a tradition that the interior was dated 1684, although this date is now covered.
