Description
Newton Morrell Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the mid-18th century, with earlier origins and 20th-century alterations. The main elevation is rendered with limestone quoins and features a steeply pitched slate roof, along with renewed brick end and internal stacks. The building has a complex plan, consisting of the main part and two additions at the rear. It is two storeys high with an attic and has a four-window range. The central entrance includes a panelled door and a 20th-century trellis porch. On the ground floor, there are three sash windows with glazing bars and stone voussoirs, while the first floor has four 12-pane sashes also with stone voussoirs. The farmhouse has rusticated stone quoins, a roof dormer, and a 20th-century skylight. The rear additions include a brick and limestone section that is two storeys plus an attic, featuring a raking roof over an outshot and brick stacks. The windows in this section consist of single-light metal casements with lead cames and wood lintels, as well as two-, three-, and four-light wood casements with wood lintels. There is an attached dairy range made of coursed squared limestone with a slate roof and brick end stalks. The ground floor of the dairy range has a two-light window that is partly glazed and partly ventilated with bars and mesh, and the attic contains a large 19th-century half-dormer and a central tie-bar. The interior is reported to have panelling and 18th-century fixtures and fittings, although it has not been inspected.
