Description
The Church of St John the Evangelist is a church built in 1856 by architect William Butterfield and constructed by Franklin's and Hopcrafts of Deddington. It features regular coursed ironstone rubble with limestone dressings and has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with stone copings. The church consists of a chancel, nave, and a central tower, all designed in the Decorated style. The east window of the chancel is a three-light window with intersecting tracery, while other windows include two-light designs with trefoiled heads and additional windows with intersecting tracery. The bell tower has three stages, topped with a plain tile pyramidal roof and louvred trefoil-headed windows at the bell stage, along with slit windows for the stairway. The south porch has a steeply pitched plain tile roof and weatherboarded sides. The south doorway is plain with moulded jambs. Inside, the east window was created by F. Preedy of London.
