Description
Nos. 43 and 44 on North Bar Street in Banbury are a house now used as offices, dating from the early 18th century with later alterations and additions to the rear. The building features a rusticated ground floor and stuccoed first and second floors, topped with a slate roof and brick end stacks, one of which has a rendered base. It stands three storeys high and has a three-window range.
The off-centre doorway on the left has panelled reveals, fluted imitation pilasters, and a hood supported by consoles, with a 20th-century door. This doorway is flanked by sash windows with glazing bars, each having a four-pane width and moulded stone surrounds. To the right is another doorway with a 20th-century door and a moulded stone surround. A moulded band runs along the first floor, where there are three sash windows with moulded stone surrounds and glazing bars. The second floor mirrors this with three similar windows.
Inside No. 43, there is a dog-leg staircase with square newels, a fireplace with a bressumer, part of a wooden winder stair, and chamfered beams.
