Description
Johnson and Gaunt Solicitors is a house now used as offices, originally built in the 17th century and remodelled in the 18th century. The building is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched slate roof. It has two storeys plus an attic and a five-window range. The central doorway is framed by a Doric doorcase with panelled reveals, a four-panelled door, and an overlight. On either side of the doorway are pairs of renewed wooden mullioned and transomed windows, with five similar windows on the first floor. The attic includes three gabled roof dormers with casements, bargeboards, and finials, as well as a two-light mullion window to the cellar. Inside, there is a notable example of 17th-century panelling in the ground floor and first floor offices, a dog-leg staircase, and a fireplace in the downstairs office that features a moulded wood surround and a marble mantel.
