Description
The Sphinx Restaurant is an inn that has been converted into a shop and restaurant. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of limestone with a rendered first floor and features a slate roof. There is a rendered brick stack on the right side. It stands two storeys tall, plus an attic, and has a three-window range with a three-unit plan. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts, while the first floor features three sash windows with glazing bars and keystoned stone surrounds. Stone pilasters are present on the first floor, along with a bracketed eaves cornice. The building has three gabled roof dormers and was formerly known as the Buck and Bell Inn. The interior has not been inspected.
