Description
The Wheatsheaf Inn is a house that has been converted into a public house, likely dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is constructed from regular coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched slate roof with brick end stacks and stone copings. The building has two storeys plus an attic and presents a four-window range in an L-plan layout.
The central entrance to the courtyard has panelled double doors topped with a wood lintel. On the ground floor, there are three renewed windows, also with wood lintels. The first floor features three 3-light wood-mullioned windows with opening casements, along with two gabled roof dormers that have opening casements. The rear courtyard is paved with cobblestones, and the right rear wing includes a window with fragmentary remains of a stone mullion, as well as a 19th-century bow window. Inside, there is a notable 4-centred arched fireplace located in the ground floor bar.
