Description
The Swan Hotel, located at No 58 The Pantiles, was built in 1746 and is an early 19th-century structure. It features three storeys with wood stuccoed and grooved surfaces that imitate masonry. The front is flanked by pilasters, and there is an eaves cornice adorned with modillions. The building has three windows and is supported by four slender fluted columns that create an arcade, topped with an entablature that includes a dentilled cornice along the bottom of the overhang. Inside the arcade, there is an 18th-century shop window, which retains the upper half of its glazing bars, although the lower half is missing. Behind the hotel, there is an additional building of lower elevation facing London Road. The Swan Hotel is part of a group that includes Nos 2 to 28 (even) and Nos 38 to 72 (even).
