Description

35 and 37 The Pantiles is a house and shop built around 1905 in the Queen Anne style, with a brick block from around 1860 on the left. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, featuring orange brick pilasters and a tiled roof. It has three storeys and attics, with two windows facing The Pantiles and one window facing the Square. Both facades have a projecting pediment with a modillion eaves cornice and an oculus supported by elaborate stone brackets. Below these pediments are two-storey, four-light canted bays with mullioned and transomed windows above and Ipswich windows below. The left side bay facing The Pantiles includes a small three-light dormer. The second floor has a four-light mullioned and transomed window, while the first floor features a round-headed French window with sidelights and a Venetian window that has a wooden balcony with fretwork design. The contemporary shopfront has a deep fascia with a moulded cornice and eight pilasters. To the left is the 1860 wing, which is stuccoed with a slate roof, three storeys high, and has three windows. It has a bracket eaves cornice, with three nine-pane sashes on the second floor, first-floor windows that have marginal glazing bars and cornices, and a ground floor that includes a three-panelled door.
