Description
The Old Fishmarket is a shop that was formerly a fish market, dating from around 1890 but marked as established in 1745. It is a single-storey building with a timber frame, featuring some plastered infill and sections of diagonal weatherboarding, all resting on a plinth made of both sandstone and brick. The roof is tiled.
The front of the building has a roughcast pediment with a deep bracket cornice that also indicates its establishment in 1745. It is flanked by four engaged modified eight-sided Ionic columns and has folding central doors, along with a later wooden hood. The sides of the building include sliding doors and partitions. Inside, the roof is supported by queen posts, with angled struts providing additional strength at the corners and along the ridge piece.
