Description

The Halfway House Public House is a public house dating from around the mid 19th century, with a likely earlier rear wing. The main block is constructed of Flemish bond brick featuring blue headers, while the rear wing is tile-hung. An adjoining block at the east end is weatherboarded, and the building has a peg-tile roof with brick stacks.

The building faces south and is positioned just below the road. The main block consists of two rooms wide, with a central entrance and end stacks. The rear wing is set at right angles and has an axial stack. There is also a single-storey block at the right (east) end, which is likely a former outbuilding.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front. The main range has gabled ends. The central front door is half-glazed and features a round-headed rubbed red brick arch above it. There are two ground floor and two first floor 16-pane sash windows from the mid 19th century, with plain panelled shutters on the ground floor. The block at the right (east) end is slightly set back and has a roof that runs at right angles to the main range. This block includes a 20th-century door on the south end and three 20th-century casement windows on the right return.

Inside, the main block was undergoing internal alterations at the time of the survey in 1989, but a chimney-piece from the mid 19th century remains at the left end.
