Description
The South Cottage is a small part of a larger house originally built around 1570, now functioning as a cottage. It has undergone significant restoration, alterations, and extensions, particularly in the 1930s to 1940s, when red and some blue bricks were added. The cottage features a plain tiled roof that is hipped to the right, with a projecting breast and a very tall chimney stack, while the left side has a partly hipped roof with a large framed half-hip. There is also a tall stack at the rear. The building is two storeys high and has a slightly irregular two-window front, showcasing large wooden diamond lattice casements set in segment-headed surrounds. On the west face, the lintel of a transom and mullion window with a drip-mould is still visible. Additionally, on the first floor of the east front, there is a blocked doorway, with a possible blocked doorway below it, and the upper doorway features a moulded surround on the inside. To the north, there is a two-storey extension that is brick and tile-hung, dating from the 1930s to 1940s.
