Description
The Priest's House at Sissinghurst Castle is a house that was likely originally connected to the main block of the house built around 1570. It dates back to the 16th century and is constructed of red brick, with some stone and a mix of cemented and red brick dressings. The building features a parapetted roof with tumble-parapetted gables on each side, and there are diagonally-placed pinnacles and globes on each gable. A central stack is present, and the gables on the east and west sides include dormers, with the main ridge running north and south. The house has two storeys and an attic, with transom and mullioned windows that have stone and cemented surrounds and drip-moulds on the first floor to the east and on both the first and ground floors to the north. Wooden casements with lattice glazing are found elsewhere. There is a boarded door in a later extension to the south, along with 20th-century extensions to the south and west. Although the Priest's House was not part of the circa 1570 house, it may have been attached to it and could pre-date the main house.
