Description
East Heath is a late 18th-century house. It has a timber frame with weatherboarding over a brick base and a plain tiled roof. The house is two storeys high, with a modillion eaves cornice to the hipped roof. Chimneys are located at each end. The windows are regularly spaced, with two tripartite glazing bar sashes on each floor, set in moulded surrounds. The first floor has a central glazing bar sash. The front door is made of six raised and fielded panels, topped with a traceried semi-circular fanlight and an open pediment supported by Doric pilasters with entablature blocks. There are three hipped rear wings – one is a 20th-century extension – and a stone-lined cellar extends across the left return, potentially dating before the main house. Inside, a geometric staircase features a wreathed handrail, stick balusters on scrolled treads, and a dado rail is present in the main rooms. The fireplaces are enriched with swagged decorations and Neo-Classical motifs. An upper room contains agricultural implements and swagged ears of wheat.
