Description
This is an oasthouse, likely built in the mid-19th century, located about 40 meters south-west of Putlands Farmhouse on Maidstone Road in Paddock Wood. The building features stowage brick on the ground floor and is weatherboarded above, topped with a slate roof. It includes a brick kiln with a peg-tile roof.
The oasthouse is positioned facing the road and is part of a symmetrical group that includes a small yard to the north and the farmhouse set back between them. The structure has a rectangular stowage section with a cylindrical kiln attached on the east side.
On the exterior, the west side of the stowage has two first-floor windows with segmental arched heads; one window is blocked while the other has slats. There is a small loft doorway to the right, situated high under the eaves. The left (north) side features a two-leaf plank door with strap hinges and a two-leaf plank loft door above. The kiln has a conical roof, although its cowl is missing.
This oasthouse is part of an attractive roadside farmstead group.
