Description

This group of four chest tombs, dated between 1830 and 1853, is located approximately 12 meters north of the tower of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. The largest tomb is a white marble monument commemorating John Scott, who died in 1842. It is designed as a sarcophagus on a two-step plinth, featuring large panels with moulded frames on the sides, and circular ends. The south side has an inscription in Roman serif capitals noting John Scott's death.

Nearby is the chest tomb of Sir Robert Shore Milne, who died in 1830. This rectangular white marble tomb has a flat lid with moulded edges and a chamfered plinth. The corners are adorned with plain clasping pilasters, and the sides are plain panelled. The south side is inscribed in Roman serif capitals, recording Sir Robert Shore Milne's death.

Another similar chest tomb is located slightly closer to the church, with a northern side panel inscribed in Roman serif capitals that commemorates William Mansfield Mons, who died in 1850, and his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1833. The fourth tomb is a sandstone chest tomb in Gothic style, dedicated to Marianne Tiche, who died in 1853. It features a ridged lid with moulded edges, a chamfered plinth, corner pilasters with Gothic panels, and sides with concave corner panels. The south side panel is inscribed in Roman serif capitals, recording Marianne Tiche's death.
