Description
The pair of chest tombs belonging to the Cole family are located about 20 meters southeast of the Church of St. Margaret. These tombs are set on a single raised stone platform, which was originally surrounded by a railing. Both tombs date from the late 18th century.
The northern tomb features a double stepped base with a moulded plinth and urn-shaped corner piers that have gadrooned designs and fluted stems. It includes raised and fielded inscription panels, with the corners chamfered and decorated with scalloped enrichment. The moulded top slab is inscribed and displays a Coat of Arms.
The southern tomb is slightly older in style, resting on a stepped base with a moulded plinth and similar urn-shaped corner piers with a gadrooned bowl. It also has raised and fielded inscription panels, chamfered corners, and a moulded top slab that is inscribed and bears a Coat of Arms.
