Description
This is a small farmhouse, likely dating from the late 17th century or earlier. The ground floor is built of brick, with Flemish bond on the front elevation and English bond on the left return, while the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is covered in peg tiles and features a brick stack with a truncated shaft.
The house faces west and has a two-room plan, with a larger hall/kitchen to the right (south) and a smaller service room to the left (north). The room to the south contains an axial stack for heating, and includes an outshut. A staircase rises within the hall against the rear wall of the service room. A room is said to have previously existed at the north end. The main entrance is now on the south return.
The exterior is two storeys and an attic. The roof is gabled at the left end and half-hipped at the right. The west front is asymmetrical, with a blind section to the left of centre and a single ground and first-floor window with 3-light timber casements added in the 1980s. The left return has three windows, one on each floor; the ground floor window is a small-pane casement from the 19th century. A 19th-century front door is located on the right return, accompanied by a 20th-century conservatory/porch.
The principal room inspected retains many original features, including a chamfered axial beam, an open fireplace with a timber lintel, old wall and ceiling plaster, and a brick floor. A 19th-century door with strap hinges leads to the staircase.
The roof was not inspected, but it is believed to contain early timbers.
