Description
Bourne Farmhouse is a late 16th to early 17th century timber-framed house, originally a 3-bay lobby entrance house, which was re-clad in the late 18th century. The exterior is now tile hung, set on a brick plinth, with some brickwork in a diaper bond pattern. The steeply pitched tiled roof has a tall, panelled brick chimneystack, originally from the late 16th or early 17th century and re-capped in the 20th century. The house has two storeys and attics, with four windows and one 20th-century hipped dormer. The windows are metal casements. A 19th-century brick and tile porch, with a Gothick-headed metal side-light and panelled door, sits at the front. A large early 17th century fireplace with a bread oven removed occupies the central room. The parlour has curved brick fireplaces. The interior features a chamfered spine beam with a lamb's tongue stop. A 18th-century winder stair rises within the house. On the first floor, original floorboards remain, alongside jowled posts. The roof dates probably from the 18th century and has through purlins, a queen post, and no ridge piece.
