Description

Downsgate is an early 19th-century house. The original part is stuccoed with a slate roof largely hidden behind a parapet, and features a brick chimney stack. The main section has five windows, with a later two-storey, one-window addition to the north and a single-storey extension to the south. The original facade features a moulded parapet coping, twelve-pane sash windows with shutters, and a central doorcase with Tuscan columns. The door is half-glazed with side lights and a rectangular chinoiserie fanlight, set above a plinth. Inside, the staircase has cast iron balusters and scrolled tread ends.
