Description
Little Boxhurst is a house that dates back to the late medieval period and features an open hall-house design. It has been partly rebuilt and reclad in the 18th century, with a later extension added in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed, with red brick on the ground floor and weatherboarding on the first floor. It has a tiled roof that is hipped on the left side and includes two brick chimneystacks. The house has two storeys and attics, with five windows and one gabled dormer. There are five 20th-century casement windows with leaded lights. A 20th-century lean-to extension is located on the left side, while the 18th-century outshut at the rear has also been extended in the 20th century. Inside, the house features a roll-moulded spine beam and a crenellated and roll-moulded end of the hall beam, as well as an open fireplace. Notably, William Crompton, who inspired Richmal Compton's William books, lived here for some time.
